Free Forever API Key

Why You Need an API Key? #

Helpmate’s AI chatbot runs on RhapsodyPlugins’ servers. Chat messages are sent there, processed, and responses are returned to your site. To use the chatbot you need an API key that identifies your site and tracks your usage (credits). You can start with a Free Forever API key or use an existing key (e.g. from a Pro purchase).

Activate API Key (Setup Wizard) #

After you install and activate Helpmate, the setup wizard opens. The first step is Step 1: Activate API Key, with two options:

Get Your Free Forever API Key — create a new free key (and RhapsodyPlugins account) from this site.
Activate Your API Key — paste an API key you already have (from the RhapsodyPlugins dashboard or from a previous setup).

You only need to do one of these. When the key is active, the wizard continues (e.g. quick-train homepage, then next steps).

Get Your Free Forever API Key #

Use this when you don’t have an API key yet.

In Step 1: Activate API Key, use the left card: Get Your Free Forever API Key.
Enter:
- Email — used as your RhapsodyPlugins account login.
- Password — at least 6 characters (you’ll use this to log in at rhapsodyplugins.com/login).
- Confirm Password — must match.
Check the box to agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and to receive account/product emails and to allow the chatbot to use data you provide for better responses.
Click Get Free Forever API Key.

What happens:

A RhapsodyPlugins account is created and a Free Forever license is created for the Helpmate Free plan.
Your current site’s domain is registered to that key (one domain per free key; localhost is handled separately).
The plugin receives and stores the API key, validation data, and credits. You don’t need to copy the key manually.
A welcome email is sent to your email with login details and your API key (so you can use it on another site later or in the dashboard).
The wizard then continues (e.g. “Initializing Chatbot…” and quick-train).

If you see “Domain already registered”: this domain is already tied to another free (or existing) key. Use Activate Your API Key and enter the key from your email or from rhapsodyplugins.com/login, or use a different site/domain for a new free key.

Activate Your API Key (Existing Key) #

Use this when you already have an API key (e.g. from a previous free signup or from a Pro license).

In Step 1: Activate API Key, use the right card: Activate Your API Key.
Paste your API key in the field (the long string from your welcome email or from the RhapsodyPlugins dashboard).
Click Activate API Key.

The plugin validates the key with RhapsodyPlugins, registers this site’s domain to the key (if the plan allows and domain limit isn’t exceeded), and stores the key and credits. Then the wizard continues.

Already have an API key? Use Log In to Get API Key to open rhapsodyplugins.com/login. After logging in you can view/copy your API key and paste it into the Activate Your API Key form.

After Setup: Managing Your API Key #

View or change key: WordPress admin → Helpmate → API / License (or equivalent menu). There you can see key status and, if your plan allows, add or manage domains. To use a different key, you’d typically deactivate/replace it as your setup or account flow allows.
Retrieve key later: Log in at rhapsodyplugins.com/login and open your account/dashboard to see and copy your API key for use on this or another site.
Pro keys: If you purchase Helpmate Pro, use the same Activate Your API Key flow and paste the key from your purchase or from the RhapsodyPlugins dashboard. See Purchase and Activate Pro API Key for details.

What the Free Forever Key Includes? #

Helpmate Free plan (“Free Forever”): no recurring payment; key does not expire (server-side, free licenses are treated as not expiring).
One domain: the free key is tied to one site/domain. Activating on this site uses that single slot.
Credits: the Free plan includes a set amount of AI response and data source credits (exact amounts are set on the server and may be shown in the plugin or dashboard). Usage is tracked per key/domain.
Lower limits than Pro: e.g. lower max tokens and data tokens per request than Pro; enough for normal use of the knowledge-base chatbot.

Troubleshooting #

Issue	What to do
“Domain already registered”	This domain is already on another key. Use Activate Your API Key with the key from your email or login, or get a new free key on a different domain.
“Failed to activate api key” / domain limit	Your plan’s domain limit is reached. Remove an unused domain from your key in the RhapsodyPlugins dashboard or use a key that has an free domain slot.
Invalid or expired key	Confirm you’re pasting the full key from the welcome email or dashboard. If you have Pro, ensure the license is active and not expired.
Server under maintenance	Registration is temporarily unavailable; try again later or contact support.

Privacy and Security #

Your email and password are used only to create or access your RhapsodyPlugins account and to send the welcome email and account-related messages (per the Privacy Policy and consent text).
The API key is stored encrypted in your WordPress database and is sent over HTTPS when validating or syncing with RhapsodyPlugins.
Chat content is processed on RhapsodyPlugins servers as described in the Privacy Policy.
