What It Does #
Abandoned Cart automatically sends personalized email reminders to customers who leave items in their cart without completing checkout. Emails can include a cart recovery link and optional coupon code to bring customers back and recover lost sales. You can schedule follow-up emails with different templates and delays. Analytics show abandoned and recovered cart counts, values, and recovery rates.
Requirements #
- Helpmate Pro — Abandoned Cart is a Pro feature. Activate a Pro API key and the Helpmate Pro plugin.
- WooCommerce — Must be installed and active. Cart data comes from WooCommerce sessions.
Enable the Abandoned Cart module in Helpmate → Modules (Control Center) if it is not already on.
Turn On Abandoned Cart #
- In the WordPress admin, go to Helpmate → Automations → Sales → Abandoned Cart.
- Ensure the module is enabled in Helpmate → Modules.
- Configure Settings (email template, timing, coupon), set up Follow Up Emails if desired, then review Carts and Analytics.
When the module is enabled and WooCommerce is active, carts are tracked automatically. After the configured “Abandoned Cart After” period, the first email is sent (if an email template is selected). Follow-up emails run according to their schedules.
Settings Tab #
- Abandoned Cart After — How long (hours and minutes) a cart must be inactive before it is marked abandoned. Default: 1 hour (60 minutes).
- Delete Abandoned Cart After — How long (days and hours) before abandoned cart data is deleted from your site. Default: 7 days.
- Email Template — Select the CRM email template for the first abandoned cart email. Use Create Template to go to CRM → Email Templates and create one. Variables:
{customer_name},{cart_total},{cart_items},{cart_url},{shop_name},{coupon_code}. If the default “Abandoned Cart – 1st Email” template is missing, use Recreate Missing Template to restore it. - Abandoned Cart Coupon — Optional. Select a WooCommerce coupon to include in the email, or “No coupon” to skip. Create coupons in WooCommerce → Coupons.
- Cart Recovery Button Text — Label for the cart recovery button in the email (e.g. “Recover Cart”).
Follow Up Emails Tab #
Schedule additional emails after the first abandoned cart email. Each follow-up has:
- Delay — Time (minutes, hours, or days) after the previous email before this one is sent.
- Template — CRM email template for this follow-up.
- Enabled — Toggle to turn each follow-up on or off.
Use Create Follow Up to add one, then edit or delete as needed. You can use Create Default Follow-Up Templates to create standard follow-up templates if none exist. Manage templates in Helpmate → CRM → Email Templates.
Carts Tab #
Lists all abandoned carts with customer info, cart contents, value, and status. You can:
- Resend Email — Send the abandoned cart email again to the customer.
- View or Create Contact — Open the contact record if one exists, or create a new contact from the cart email.
Use this tab to manually follow up or verify that emails are being sent.
Analytics Tab #
Overview of abandoned cart performance:
- Total Abandoned — Number of abandoned carts.
- Abandoned Value — Total value of abandoned carts.
- Recovered Carts — Number of carts recovered (checkout completed).
- Recovered Value — Total value of recovered carts.
- Recovery Rate — Percentage of abandoned carts that were recovered.
- Avg Recovery Time — Average time from abandonment to recovery (in hours).
How It Works for the Customer #
- Customer adds products to the cart and leaves without checking out.
- After “Abandoned Cart After” (e.g. 1 hour), the cart is marked abandoned.
- The customer receives the first email with a cart recovery link (and optional coupon).
- If follow-ups are configured, additional emails are sent at the scheduled delays.
- When the customer clicks the link and completes checkout, the cart is counted as recovered.
Carts are deleted after “Delete Abandoned Cart After” to keep data manageable.
